After an internal call for help to take over software.opensuse.org deployment, I spend some time studying the code in order to find out what would it mean to take it over. The main reason was a PR from the community that has not been merged, and deployment depending on internal SUSE employees.

DAPS, the "DocBook Authoring and Publishing Suite" provides a tool set for easy creation and publication of DocBook sources on Linux. DAPS lets you create HTML (incl. webhelp), PDF, EPUB, man pages, and other formats with a single command. DAPS is used and developed by teh SUSE documentation team. The official DAPS release is 1.1.7. SUSE internally DAPS 2.0 rc2 has been released. A few issues need to be fixed (mainly closing open bugs and adding missing test cases). The goal of this project is to fix these issues, so DAPS 2.0 can be publicly released.

Store the OS root-tree on a container storage. The idea is to build a minimal golang tool capable to init a container storage to a custom location, store remote OCI images in there and mount them into a custom mountpoint. Next step is to craft a dracut based initrd including such a tool to mount the OS at boot. Finally, craft a disk with an EFI partition including the kernel, initrd and systemd-boot.

The kdump plumbing is implemented as a dracut module. The original intention was to reuse the logic that dracut uses to deal with storage and network, but it turns out that kdump needs are often very different, so a lot of time is spent on avoiding dracut features that are undesirable.

I'm using Conversations (XMPP+OMEMO) as an encrypted IM solution. Since a lot of groups organizing them self using WhatsApp, it's hard to stay away from it.

We all pant for customer data. Which hardware do customers run ? Which packages are installed ? Which services are running ? etc. pp. A lot of this data is in the supportconfig. But this is neither collected, nor centralized, not easily accessible.

My idea was created out of a need in my current team(Hardware-enablement). Whilst excessive SLE testing on multiple machines i was forced to remember tons of ips to debug remotely. Since i had to reinstall new releases over and over again, ips differ, obviously. My approach to make life easier would be to create a simple cli to manage and administrate multiple connections on my local machine.

BPF verifier plays a crucial role in securing the system (though less so now that unprivileged BPF is disabled by default in both upstream and SLES), and bugs in the verifier has lead to privilege escalation vulnerabilities in the past (e.g. CVE-2021-3490).

Motivation / Problem

Right now, our QA team tests YaST with OpenQA very much based on keyboard shortcuts: Set the keyboard focus to the "User Name" input field with Alt-U, enter a user name, [Tab] to get to the next field, enter more text, finally Alt-N to activate the "Next" button.

I want to create a basic web dashboard for Jenkins view with help of Jenkins XML API , Pharo, Seaside and Bootstrap. The biggest benefit for me would be if I can learn how to handle with Classes and its instances containing data from Jenkins in pure object programming language. My goal is to display overall status of the collections in form of progress bars (as openQA does) with info about failed and succeeded slenkins-testcases. Collection view (eg. https://slenkins.suse.de/jenkins/view/Collections-review/) in Jenkins contains list of current SLES builds and each collection has subprojects containing slenkins-testsuites triggered by Jenkins CI for this SLES build.

During the last CSM workshop we identified the need to have a good way to share the images we use for testing. We have documented the requirements and the current status in this wiki page (we even have a diagram). So analysis is done... it's time for action. The solution should be relatively easy to implement using our portfolio of solutions. Coordinating all the potential users should be easier during Hackweek, specially since I'll be in Nuremberg (and I can physically chase most people ;-) ).

Customers are using complex storage stacks such as LVM over dm-crypt over MD RAID over multipath over iSCSI and FC with LOTs of LUNs, and we're facing problems in that area which are usually very hard to reproduce. It's also hard to guard against regressions. Being able to quickly and reliably set up VMs with various types of storage / multipath is a key part of testing multipath. It's doable, but cumbersome and has a steep learning curve. I want to create easy-to-understand manual recipes plus scripts that are both easy to understand / customize and deploy.

This idea has been partially implemented for JeOS images, where we are collecting some data from the images whenever a new build ends up in openQA. For instance, https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2419705#step/image_info/9 is collecting the size of the image, as well as total number of RPMs, the list of RPMs with their size and some filesystem information.

The idea is to have an internal web page that mainly presents new SUSE employees or the ones you might not know yet. Other topics can be covered like reports about hack week projects or other interesting stuff apart from the daily work we all do. As a start there would be a questionnaire which results are posted on a web page.
