SMBIOS 3.0 support in dmidecode

an invention by jdelvare

On February 12th, 2015, the DMTF released version 3.0.0 of the System Management BIOS Reference Specification. This update isn't just adding enumerated values to existing structures, as previous updates did. It is also introducing a new entry point format which allows for larger tables and structures. Support for this needs to be added to dmidecode. Additionally, reading the entry point and the table from /dev/mem is no longer possible on all systems, so some work is in progress to offer an alternative interface through sysfs. It would be great to finalize this and release a new version of dmidecode that would support both SMBIOS version 3.0 and this new kernel interface.

Wireless mesh network

a project by chuller

Using an arduino nano, a rf23b (http://www.hoperf.com/rf/fsk_module/RFM23BP.htm) wireless module (or anything like it) and a solar panel to build a mesh network node that can be used to quickly deploy wireless networks. The connection between the nodes will be serial, a endpoint will have an additional wlan module connected so it will be possible to use the mesh network for normal wlan enabled devices.

Test openQA in openQA with openQA using openQA for openQA

a project by RBrownSUSE

Occasionally, new versions of openQA break things. How do you stop that? MORE TESTING! Testing openQA by using openQA to ensure the new versions don't break should be a good example of how openQA can test everything and anything, even itself.

Get started with nftables on openSUSE

a project by abergmann

netfilter.org states that "nftables is the project that aims to replace the existing {ip,ip6,arp,eb}tables framework." The nftables kernel code was merged into the mainline kernel in January 2014. So it's time to get started with the <b>new</b> Linux firewall framework on openSUSE. <ul>

Search in internal wiki

a project by yosun

Now we are lack of using internal wiki page to solve problem. One of the reason is that we don't know if it contain the solution we need, and it's not convenient to search it manually in wiki page. It's much more slower than using google. In one group, we are most likely facing the same problem during work. So keeping the best solution, which we got from searching engine, in internal wiki is an efficiency way to collect standard workflow.

Bootstrap openSUSE for MIPS

a project by a_faerber

While in the past MIPS boards were either low-end PIC32 or found in routers running OpenWRT at most, Imagination themselves have recently released the Creator CI20 board (Ingenic, MIPS32) running Debian. And the Shield Pro (previously iGuardian) kickstarter project (Octeon-III, MIPS64) promises to become a playground for testing KVM hardware virtualization. Porting openSUSE to MIPS will involve setting up an OBS instance linked to Factory (update: done) and cross-compiling a set of packages for an initial bootstrap (update: in progress). Maybe this can be scripted to some degree, as there will be some overlap with the ARM ILP32 port project.

Support for WiFi-enabled Canon cameras in gphoto

a project by michal-m

I have a Canon PowerShot S120, which allows for browsing / copying photos over WiFi. There are apps for Android, iOS, and Windows to do that. The protocol uses upnp to discover the camera and the smartphone/computer and them some HTTP-based protocol. I have some code using libupnp for the discovery and a perl script that is capable of transfering one file, but it's far from complete. Plus, I need to refresh my memory, because the last commit is from January :-(. Now, there seems to be some support for such cameras in gphoto already. So the plan is to dive into gphoto and use what I learned about the protocol to fix the gphoto support. If you own some other WiFi-enabled Canon camera supported by the CameraWindow software, let me know.

openSUSE for Firefly-RK3288

a project by a_faerber

The Firefly-RK3288 is the first SBC with the Rockchip RK3288 SoC, the first available chip with Cortex-A17 cores (32-bit ARMv7). I received such a board just in time for Hackweek Interstellar and will be looking into booting an upstream kernel with openSUSE 13.2/Factory rootfs.

openSUSE for IFC6540

a project by a_faerber

The Inforce Computing IFC6540 is an SBC with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC (32-bit ARMv7). I had previously brought up openSUSE on the IFC6410. A week before Hackweek Interstellar I got the IFC6540 to boot on serial console using the upstream-based Linaro integration branch, up to searching for the rootfs. Since USB and SATA support were still missing, my goal will be to prepare a MicroSD based rootfs to complete the bringup.

KVM for Nvidia Jetson TK1

The Nvidia Jetson TK1 is an SBC with Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC (quad-core Cortex-A15, 32-bit ARMv7). I have openSUSE running on the Jetson TK1, but KVM is currently not usable as the CPUs are not booted in HYP mode. Thierry Reding of Nvidia has some work-in-progress for U-Boot and upstream kernel that I would like to test.

Scalability improvement for running tiedot database on SMP systems

an invention by guohouzuo

tiedot is a general purpose, document database engine designed for both embeddable usage and running stand-alone DB server, implemented in Go. Despite the effort of partitioning collection data and indexes, a single tiedot process still cannot scale beyond 4 CPU cores due to limitations of both data structure and Go runtime. Last year, an attempt began to partition data across multiple tiedot processes, and use IPC for communication and database logics. Initial benchmarks show promising scalability improvement using the new implementation. So let us complete the new implementation together, to bring the most scalable & embeddable DB engine for Go programs!

Splitting python-gammu out of Gammu

an invention by mcihar

In past it was needed these project to be developed together due to unstable API of Gammu. This is now stable and having python module in the code just makes the things harder. The code should be separated, use standard distutils and have testsuite. In future it should also support Python 3, but that's not the primary goal now. The work has already started:
