a project by RBrownSUSE

zypper is magic

A number of experiments suggest that it may be feasible to run zypper from an openSUSE 'live' media against a 'foreign' RPM based OS installation (eg. CentOS) and then 'zypper dup' to openSUSE

an idea by dmuhamedagic

The Debian debtags package and database are a flexible scheme to assign tags (properties) to packages of a distribution. It would be of benefit to SUSE to port debtags.

Add zypper markauto/unmarkauto commands to allow tuning automated cleanup

a project by mlandres

Packages added by the dependency solver in order to resolve a user's request, are marked as having been automatically installed. They may later be removed, if no more manually installed packages depend on them (e.g. by zypper remove --clean-deps). However things may go haywire. Automatically installed packages may turn out to be useful, and you may want to exclude them from any automatic cleanup. And vice versa.

For a few months, openSUSE community has the ability to host the openSUSE rpm repositories on a commercial CDN and it is in a slowly rolling out phase. There are however remaining potential bottlenecks and optimisation opportunities. My goal for this hack week is to investigate them and make reasonable progress on resolving them.
