Well, I already joined a project, but for those of you who still don't have one and need some good ideas, why not improving the tenuous touchpad driver? (at least the synaptics driver is)

Notebooks nowadays don't have real physical buttons anymore, but a ClickPad you push down. Unfortunately, the curser still moves while clicking so you often miss the object you want to click on. IMHO touchpad drivers should have the following features:

-> 1) If touchpad is multi-touch, then the finger you click with should be disabled and only the second one should be used for moving the curser (for non-multi-touch the curser should only move, if you move it a certain distance while clicking)

-> 2) The touchpad should be automatically disabled when a USB-mouse is plugged in
look here for more infos about udev: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics#Disable_touchpad_upon_external_mouse_detection

-> 3) If you swipe with three fingers from right to left (or vice versa), it should be seen as a 'go back' function, so e.g. you would go back one page in browser

-> 4) All these things should be configurable in GUI settings menu for mouse (there is 'only' palm detection and scrolling options in Mate, KDE and Gnome). Maybe an easy to use panel application for the taskbar would be nice, too

As I said before, this is only a suggestion and my own opinion, probably I will not participate in this project.
Happy coding! :)
