Description

container-snap is an experimental tool for deploying operating systems from OCI/container images and integrates into openSUSE's transactional-update. container-snap is currently in an alpha-state and hasn't been submitted to openSUSE yet. Also, there is no fully tested openSUSE based image with container-snap pre-loaded.

Additionally, there are still some unsolved problems, e.g. /etc/ handling is not really solved very well (currently /etc/passwd come from the container image, but it should be stored on the host) and should be handled by a tool like bindicate.

The aim of this hackweek project is, to create an official openSUSE Tumbleweed image based with container-snap enabled

Goals

  • get https://github.com/openSUSE/transactional-update/pull/137 merged
  • integrate bindicate into the container-snap based image
  • submit bindicate & container-snap to openSUSE:Factory
  • create a working container-snap based image
  • ensure that kernel updates are handled gracefully and don't require reinstalling the bootloader
  • write openQA tests for the container-snap image
