Hi everyone — I’d like to propose a small Hack Week project and find a few collaborators.

Short idea: build an open-source, lightweight mobile/web tool that helps Dubai commuters visualize the Dubai Metro network, estimate fares, and make it easy to check NOL card balances (with clear privacy-first design).

Why this is useful

Many commuters want a fast, offline-friendly metro map with fare estimates and simple tips for using NOL cards.

An open project can provide privacy-first alternatives to closed apps, plus smart offline routing for tourists and expats.

Great learning project for people interested in maps, small mobile UIs, and simple CLI/automation tools for transit helpers.

Planned features

Interactive (and downloadable) Dubai Metro Map (red/green/blue lines, stations, transfer points).

Fare estimator based on zones/stations and typical journey times.

Simple NOL balance check workflow (UI mockups and guides for users to check balances securely — we will not collect user credentials).

Offline mode: downloadable assets and light-weight pathfinding for common trips.

Small plugin system so contributors can add integrations (e.g., timetable scraping, trip cost analytics, exportable trip plans).

Tech stack ideas

Frontend: lightweight React/Vite or static site generator for maps + PWA support.

Map data: vector tiles / geojson for stations and lines.

Backend (optional): small Flask/FastAPI or static JSON for fare table + minimal APIs for contributors.

Testing: unit tests for pathfinding/fare logic, accessibility checks for the UI.

Collaboration asks

UI/UX people: help design the offline map and mobile-friendly screens.

Map/data folks: help prepare station/line geojson and test route algorithms.

Devs: implement fare calculator, offline PWA features, and unit tests.

Docs folks: help write clear user guides that explain NOL balance checking and privacy considerations.
