Project Description

Explore how SUSE’s internal project management practices can evolve and document the strongest approaches already in place. The goal is to understand how an organization with deep FOSS roots can balance lightweight internal structures with the openness, collaboration, and decentralization that characterize successful open source projects.

The focus is on shaping project management methods that work seamlessly alongside FOSS communities and reflect their established best practices. This work aims to identify patterns that help teams operate effectively while staying true to principles of transparency, sustainability, and community collaboration—while also ensuring that sensitive internal information remains appropriately protected.

Goals

  1. Understand the challenges that arise when balancing internal organizational needs with active engagement in open source communities.

  2. Capture and summarize existing best practices that support effective project execution inside the company and within FOSS ecosystems.

  3. Identify opportunities to strengthen project management approaches in ways that support SUSE’s role as an active, responsible, and collaborative FOSS contributor while aligning with broader company objectives.
