Description

Old hardware often requires old msdos software to work which can be hard to run on modern devices and operating systems. Ideally new and FOSS versions of the software would be written, but first we need to figure out what the original versions of the software is doing. That's why we want to write some tooling to make it possible. And learn more about Rust and x86 architecture along the way!

Goals

Create software able to do the following:

  • Emulate and run software designed for MSDos
  • Create a debugger for the emulator
  • Include means of emulating devices, such as a printer
  • Be able to capture packets to devices
  • Breakpoints and be able to overwrite return values of syscalls
