Project Description

Velero is an open source tool to safely backup and restore, perform disaster recovery, and migrate Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent volumes.

Velero uses plugins (https://velero.io/plugins/) to integrate with a variety of storage systems and Kubernetes platforms to support backup, restore and snapshot operations. Since Longhorn is storage provided by Rancher, it's good to have a Velero volume snapshotter plugin for Longhorn.

Goal for this Hackweek

• Get familiar on the Velero volume snapshotter plugin interface
• Get familiar on the Longhorn backup and restore API
• Create a new open source project of Velero volume snapshotter plugin for Longhorn
