Description

While cleaning up old backups, I found several of my old programs from the 90s, which I only have preserved in binary form without source code. They were compiled with tools of the time, like Borland Turbo C or Turbo Pascal, without sophisticated optimization. So, I decided to learn the basics of reverse engineering and decompilation and try to reconstruct the source code from these old binaries.

Goals

  • learn some theory
  • get familiar with with available tools like Ghidra or free edition of IDA
  • reconstruct some sources from archived binaries

I did not use IDA, but I did use radare2, you might want to take a look at it, quite a good tool.
