In openQA we support various backends which are able to 'host' tests. 'svirt' - one of those backends - is so generic that it allows to conned to a virtualization host via SSH a perform shell commands directly.
As VirtualBox has decent command line interface (especially VBoxManage
command) it shouldn't be that hard to support VirtualBox in openQA's os-autoinst via svirt backend.
My approach will be to use VirtualBox' native CLI instead of svirt's XML crafting ability in installation/bootloader_virtualbox
test module, because libvirt vbox driver in Leap does not support VirtualBox 5 API, and because finding correct attributes for vbox libvirt's driver attributes is time consuming and error prone.
Results/Post Mortem
For a decent VirtualBox support in openQA, VirtualBox would have to make serial port reliable as we rely on it heavily. VNC support is also an underdeveloped after-thought, which might break in the future; RDP support is provided as a non-free addon only (openQA does not support RDP anyway).
On the other hand VirtualBox CLI proved to be easy to use.

Hack on isotest-ng - a rust port of isotovideo (os-autoinst aka testrunner of openQA) by szarate
Description
Some time ago, I managed to convince ByteOtter to hack something that resembles isotovideo but in Rust, not because I believe that Perl is dead, but more because there are certain limitations in the perl code (how it was written), and its always hard to add new functionalities when they are about implementing a new backend, or fixing bugs (Along with people complaining that Perl is dead, and that they don't like it)
In reality, I wanted to see if this could be done, and ByteOtter proved that it could be, while doing an amazing job at hacking a vnc console, and helping me understand better what RuPerl needs to work.
I plan to keep working on this for the next few years, and while I don't aim for feature completion or replacing isotovideo tih isotest-ng (name in progress), I do plan to be able to use it on a daily basis, using specialized tooling with interfaces, instead of reimplementing everything in the backend

Make more sense of openQA test results using AI by livdywan
Description
AI has the potential to help with something many of us spend a lot of time doing which is making sense of openQA logs when a job fails.
User Story
Allison Average has a puzzled look on their face while staring at log files that seem to make little sense. Is this a known issue, something completely new or maybe related to infrastructure changes?
Goals
- Leverage a chat interface to help Allison
- Create a model from scratch based on data from openQA
- Proof of concept for automated analysis of openQA test results

- Use AI to suggest solutions to merge conflicts
- This would need a merge conflict editor that can suggest solving the conflict

Day 1
- Conversing with open-webui to teach me how to create a model based on openQA test results

Highlights
- I briefly tested compared models to see if they would make me more productive. Between llama, gemma and mistral there was no amazing difference in the results for my case.
- Convincing the chat interface to produce code specific to my use case required very explicit instructions.
- Asking for advice on how to use open-webui itself better was frustratingly unfruitful both in trivial and more advanced regards.
- Documentation on source materials used by LLM's and tools for this purpose seems virtually non-existent - specifically if a logo can be generated based on particular licenses
Outcomes
- Chat interface-supported development is providing good starting points and open-webui being open source is more flexible than Gemini. Although currently some fancy features such as grounding and generated podcasts are missing.
- Allison still has to be very experienced with openQA to use a chat interface for test review. Publicly available system prompts would make that easier, though.
Learn obs/ibs sync tool by xlai
Description
Once images/repo are built from IBS/OBS, there is a tool to sync the image from IBS/OBS to openqa asset directory and trigger openqa jobs accordingly.
Goals
Check how the tool is implemented, and be capable to add/modify our needed images/repo in future by ourselves.

Harvester Packer Plugin by mrohrich
Description
Hashicorp Packer is an automation tool that allows automatic customized VM image builds - assuming the user has a virtualization tool at their disposal. To make use of Harvester as such a virtualization tool a plugin for Packer needs to be written. With this plugin users could make use of their Harvester cluster to build customized VM images, something they likely want to do if they have a Harvester cluster.
Goals
Write a Packer plugin bridging the gap between Harvester and Packer. Users should be able to create customized VM images using Packer and Harvester with no need to utilize another virtualization platform.

Extending KubeVirtBMC's capability by adding Redfish support by zchang
Description
In Hack Week 23, we delivered a project called KubeBMC (renamed to KubeVirtBMC now), which brings the good old-fashioned IPMI ways to manage virtual machines running on KubeVirt-powered clusters. This opens the possibility of integrating existing bare-metal provisioning solutions like Tinkerbell with virtualized environments. We even received an inquiry about transferring the project to the KubeVirt organization. So, a proposal was filed, which was accepted by the KubeVirt community, and the project was renamed after that. We have many tasks on our to-do list. Some of them are administrative tasks; some are feature-related. One of the most requested features is Redfish support.
Goals
Extend the capability of KubeVirtBMC by adding Redfish support. Currently, the virtbmc component only exposes IPMI endpoints. We need to implement another simulator to expose Redfish endpoints, as we did with the IPMI module. We aim at a basic set of functionalities:
- Power management
- Boot device selection
- Virtual media mount (this one is not so basic )

Description
The SUSE Manager (SUMA) teams' main tool for infrastructure automation, Sumaform, largely relies on terraform-provider-libvirt. That provider is also widely used by other teams, both inside and outside SUSE.
It would be good to help the maintainers of this project and give back to the community around it, after all the amazing work that has been already done.
If you're interested in any of infrastructure automation, Terraform, virtualization, tooling development, Go (...) it is also a good chance to learn a bit about them all by putting your hands on an interesting, real-use-case and complex project.
