Project Description

I want to build an HTML-based demo kiosk to host images and videos that run on SUSE Linux on a touch-enabled AiO system. I have already started to build out the HTML framework and have some placeholder videos and images. I started this project to create a tool that can be used at tradeshows to give an overview of Partners Alliances & Solutions services.

Goal for this Hackweek

  1. Refine the layout and framework for the kiosk.
  2. Design & create the content (video and image).

Resources

  1. OpenSUSE Packman Repository for video codecs.
  2. W3Schools HTML, CSS, Javascript Tutorials - w3schools.com/html

Demo kiosk is complete. It is running on an old AiO POS unit with a touch screen. I am using SLED 15 SP4 as my Linux client. I had to add video codecs from the OpenSUSE Packman repository to get the video to run properly. My browser is FireFox running in Kiosk Mode.

To launch the kiosk so it cannot be exited from by the average citizen, open a terminal, change to the demo folder, type "firefox --kiosk <URL>" or "firefox --kiosk index.html" in my case. Then remove the keyboard. The kiosk cannot be exited without a keyboard. The kiosk can be run with either a mouse or touchscreen.

To exit the kiosk mode, attach a keyboard and press <ctrl> <Q>.
