The current disk layout recreation code in ReaR is about 10 years old now and more and more severe issues show its age.

In particular ReaR must get rid of kenel device names https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/2254

The current disk layout recreation code in ReaR depends on kenel device names like '/dev/sda1' all over the place so that it seems it is in practice almost impossible to fix that with reasonable effort (basically all and everything would need to be fixed).

So the idea for this Hack Week is to try out and find out if a rewrite from scratch could be a more reasonable way.
