I started 3 years ago creating a CNC, but soon last past 6 monts I realized that I could use it as a 3D printer. The software was good enough, the hardware and firmware had evolved. And now I could print 200x200x300 pieces with 0.1mm precision.
But at soon I had this one finished, I decided to create a new compact, silent, light 3D printer.
The objective: use my first 3D printer to create a new one. Therefore, I had to design the new one using 3D and print it on my current 3D printer.
The other requisite was to not use any part of any other printer, all has to be new designs. Of course, I take a close look to all the commercial 3D printers to learn some ideas.
Finally, I am using (PLA)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polylactic_acid] a biodegradable and non toxic material
The software I'm using is:
openscad : It's a 3d source code language and a visualization tool
ultimaker cura: It's the tool to convert 3d models to printer codes
At this point it only remains:
Complete the z-axis (vertical)
Include run stops in each axis
Add electronics
Configure firmware
Testing
And as optional - Include auto calibration tools. - Include fans to cold the extruded PLA
