The basic idea is is to boot the plain SUSE installation system (inst-sys) but to not let it run YaST.

Instead inst-sys runs Relax-and-Recover (rear) as generic installer that does the system installation.

This Hack Week project is the direct sucessor of "Generic system installation with the plain SUSE installation system" that is described at https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Disaster_Recovery which emerged as spin-off from "Generic disaster recovery with the plain SUSE installation system" (see also https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Disaster_Recovery) which was my last Hack Week project https://hackweek.suse.com/12/projects/784

In contrast to "Generic system installation with the plain SUSE installation system" where a specific selfmade script was used to do the system installation now rear is used as generic installer.

The advantage of using rear as generic installer is that now the same well known Relax-and-Recover framework is used that is already well established and used for disaster recovery.

The intent behind using one same tool 'rear' both for the initial system installation and for disaster recovery is consistency and simplicity.

In contast to using one tool (YaST/AutoYaST) for the initial system installation and a totally different tool (Relax-and-Recover/rear) for disaster recovery that may recreate the system with (possibly subtle) differences, using one same tool both for the initial system installation and for disaster recovery provides consistent results and consistent behaviour for the system administrator and is simpler to maintain.
