WLAN, bluetooth, DVB, DAB, ... I'm not getting any data!

Is my antenna set up properly?

Is it switched on?

Am I picking up anything?

Where's the carrier?

How's the SNR?

Is the error correction happy?

What exactly is contained in this channel?

Is it encrypted, do I have credentials?

Similar questions arise for wireless broadcast and network connections. It's a huge task to solve all of these, so write a framework to plug in modules for each stage in each stack. They may be as simple as to call an external program, or a loadable module linked to an appropriate library, or completely open coded.

Benefits over the individual existing tools will be a familiar look&feel (Qt) and systematic, step-by-step debugging of problems. Once solved, the established reception / connection may be handed back to the specialised tools (VDR, wpa-supplicant, udev,...)
